Skinner's Horse

Indian Officers and Men, 1862

The headgear of these men is characteristic of irregular cavalry at this time. It consists of twisted cords, some of gold wound round a red domed cap. The alkhalak is a knee length yellow jacket of plain material for the officers and NCOs, but quilted for the men. The officers have chains and pickers on their pouchbelts whereas the NCOs and sowars are plain.
