126th Baluchistan Infantry

British Officers, 1912

These two watercolours by Richard Simkin show officers in full dress and drill order. The one on the left is in drill order with plain Wolesley helmet (no spike) and relatively plain undress tunic. This is not a patrol jacket, but a very smart tunic. It is of drab material, the collar and cuffs being red, edged with beige silk lace and braid. The front edge of the tunic and hem are piped in red. Rank is shown on the silk shoulder cords. The overalls are red with no stripe. Black boots and brown leather gloves are worn. The officer on the right, in full dresswears the usual rifle tunic, drab with red facings and beige silk frogging, lace and braid. His helmet has silver spike, badge and chin-chain with a plain khaki pugri. The overalls are red with no stripe and in this case, white gloves are worn. His pouchbelt differs slightly from the one worn by the other officer in that there are battle honour scrolls.
