53rd Sikhs

Subadar, 1909

This Indian officer painted by A C Lovett has a fine array of medals and shows us the colours of the 53rd. His light khaki turban has a black pointed kullah and a gold fringe where the other ranks have orange. The black collar and cuffs are edged with drab silk lace. His waistbelt has a snake clasp like the drum-major in the Other Ranks group photo of 1900. He is a Sagri Khattak Pathan.
