5th Punjab Infantry

Officers, 1878

This photo taken at the time of the Second Afghan War gives us an idea of the informality that must have existed amongst the officers and men during this time. Strict adherence to dress regulations was not required although the two Indian officers standing on the right and left of the group are smart and not wrapped up against the cold as everyone else seems to be. It is difficult to tell whether the British officers are in uniform or civilian clothes.
