Camel Detachment 1884



Detail from a group photo of part of the 11th's contribution to the Light Camel Regiment raised for the Gordon Relief Expedition of 1884. Each light cavalry regiment was required to provide a contingent of two officers and 43 other ranks. The 11th detachment was commanded by Major C E Swaine with 2 in Command Lieutenant W Harrison. There were two sergeants, two corporals and a trumpeter. Their duties were mainly confined to escort and communications. There were no casualties.
