| Major Friend in Meerut in 1922. He bore the full brunt of the change over to mechanisation that was ordered in March 1928. Because the 11th were the first cavalry regiment to change from horses to armoured cars, there were no guidelines to follow so Lt-Col Friend made proposals for organisation that were acccepted by the by the War Office. He rose to the rank of Major-General and commanded the Pioneer Corps in the 2nd World War. |
