11th Hussars

Officer's Pouch, Post-Crimea

This pouch is a puzzle because, although the label next to the display states that it is 1840, the battle honours visible tell us that it is after the Crimean War. Either side of the Queen Victoria cypher can be seen ALMA and SEVASTOPOL. This makes it post-1855 when the honours were granted. It may well have been a special pouch for Prince Albert but it is not as imposing as the usual gilt and silver variety. The photo was taken in the regimental museum at Winchester around 1980.
