F H Sutton MC, 1922

Major 'Squeak' Sutton is here in a group photo of officers of the 11th taken in Meerut, India in 1922. He commanded the regiment from 1924 to 1928. The year 1928 was a landmark year for the 11th as it was the year that the 11th Hussars became mechanised. They were the first cavalry regiment to do this, so were in effect guinea pigs for the Army. For the next 33 years the 11th was an armoured car regiment until 1961 when they converted to tanks. The headaches of mechanisation were really only starting after Sutton handed over command to A L I Friend.
