Sabretache, c1812

Examples of early sabretaches are quite rare. This one could well date from 1802 as the hallmarks on the silver crown give that date. It would have been worn up to 1812 when the uniform changed. The lace is silver as are the crown and George III cypher which are solid metal. The laurel leaves are in silver embroidery. All on a mid-blue cloth ground. There are no battle honours displayed even though they were granted the honour EGYPT in July 1802. This example belonged to Lieutenant Hugh Penrice.
