Corporal Alexander Vinall DCM

On the 29th Oct 1918 at the action at Cemetery Hill, Mesopotamia, one sergeant was killed and 6 men wounded of which Corporal Vinall was one. He died of his wounds on 31st Oct. His topee helmet has the white and dark blue flash which is still worn on the sleeves of no2 dress in the present-day Light Dragoons. It is called the South Africa Flash but should more correctly be called the Mesopotamia Flash as the one worn in the South Africa War was a cloth square, the top half being a white rectangle and the bottom half blue.
