The Charge at El Kutunie

A sketch by Private M Baggott of the charge at El Kutunie. He has titled the drawing 'Rounding up at Azizier', an alternative spelling of Aziziyeh. The first action carried out by the 14th Hussars was at El Kutunie, 8 miles from Aziziyeh. If Baggott was drawing his sketches around the time that the events took place then he could be forgiven for getting the place names wrong. He has dated it 24 Nov 1915 which is a few days before the account in 'The Emperor's Chambermaids'. The charge of Lieut Miller's squadron was against Arabs, and Baggott has drawn then in a rather stereotyped way. The central mounted figure must represent Miller while another officer follows with sword raised. A private is on the right in the act of swiping at an Arab who is poised to flee.
