Royal Crest

In some books the badge of the 15th is called the Crest of England, and a distinction is drawn between the Royal Crest badge of the 14th Light Dragoons. This symbol dates back to medieval times when the knights bore armorial crests on the top of their helmets and the king wore the lion on the crown. It has been the badge of the regiment since it became royal in 1766. This embroidered version is from the centre of an officer's sabretache c1835.
