3rd Dragoon Guards

Lt-Colonel Ulick de Burgh

Commanding officer of the 3rd Dragoon Guards from 1897 to 1900. In 1900 he was appointed to command the Commission sent to America to purchase remounts for the Boer War. He and his commission were responsible for the provision of quality horses which arrived in South Africa before the end of the war. These supplies ensured that the Boers, hemmed in, hungry and exhausted, eventually had no alternative but to surrender.
