Band, Undress 1893

The members of the band are in stable dress which consists of waist-length scarlet jackets with black velvet facings, and dress trousers with a broad yellow stripe. The trumpet-major sits to the left of the large time-beater's drum, and has 4 gold chevrons on his fore-arm. The sergeants and the trumpet-major have gold lace on their collars and cuffs, and wide gold lace on their pill-box caps. The corporals have gold lace chevrons and narrow gold lace on their caps. Two young men on the ends of the top two rows are wearing crossed trumpet badges as they are trumpeters. Some of the bandsmen are boys, being employed to play in the band, dismounted as well as mounted. The instruments include a bassoon, euphoniums, trombones (slide trumpets), keyed bugles, trumpets and double-basses. The drums normally carried by the drumhorse can be seen, without the drum-banners.
