Standard Presentation Parade

On 5th April 1906 the regiment paraded in review order at Canterbury under Lt-Col C W Thompson to receive the new Standard from HRH Louise the Princess Royal. This was the first time that the 7th Princess Royal's Dragoon Guards had actually met a Princess Royal. Their title was granted to them in 1788 and there had been three Princess Royals since that date, but two of them had not taken an interest in the regiment and met with them. At the Consecration ceremony by the Chaplain-General, the new Standard was laid on the treasured Dettingen Drums. In this picture there is a base drum laid on its side with the Dettingen Drums placed on top. There is no sign of the Princess at this stage, perhaps they are waiting for her to arrive. Major-General Sir Henry Ewart was there, maybe he is the one on the right of the picture in khaki service dress, with the Chaplain-General next to him.
