The Princess Royal at the Standard Presentation

The carriage brings the Princess Royal with her husband the Duke of Fife to, or from, the Ceremonial Presentation of the new Standard to the 7th DG. This took place on 5th April 1906, at Canterbury where the regiment was stationed. Louise had been created Princess Royal only a few months before in November 1905, so she did not waste much time before visiting her regiment. She was not yet their Colonel-in-Chief, that appointment came in June 1914. While there she presented the officer's mess and the sergeant's mess with items of silver, a welcome gift, for the officers especially, since their silver had been lost in South Africa in 1846.
