7th Hussars

Drumhorse Shabraque

This exhibit at the Queen's Own Hussar museum, although half covered with 3rd Hussar militaria, gives a good idea of the shabraque that was made for the drumhorse circa 1910. It was a half-shabraque that had the pointed rear part, but not the rounded front part, very similar to the officer's shabraque pre-1855 in that it was dark blue with large scarlet vandykes on the inside of the gold lace edge. The QO cypher was topped with a king's crown. The last time that the drumhorse had such a shabraque was before the uniform change of 1855.
