| Burnell first joined the 16th Lancers in 1854 but transferred to the 7th Hussars in October 1870 as a major. On 23rd July 1879 he became commanding officer of the 7th with the rank of Lieut-Colonel. He became a brevet colonel in 1878 but died on 18th Dec 1883 while still in command. |
