7th Hussars

The Manacles

The rocks off the coast of the Lizard Point are so named from the Cornish words Maen Eglos which means Church Stones. This may be a reference to the nearby church of St Keverne. This drawing of the rocks is printed in Barrett's history of the 7th Queen's Own Hussars along with the various accounts of the drowning of the soldiers in the wreck of the Despatch.
