Air Marshal Sir John Eustace Arthur Baldwin KBE CB DSO



John Baldwin was commissioned into the 8th Hussars in 1912. In World War 1 he was seconded into the Royal Flying Corps and in 1920 he left the regiment to join the RAF. He reached the rank of Air Marshal and was appointed Colonel of the 8th Hussars on 1st January 1948. He was Colonel for 10 years. The picture shows him on the left, standing behind Lieutenant-Colonel Sir William Lowther Bart. Prince Philip, in forage cap, is Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment, and Captain R W Piper stands on the right. This was in November 1953, at Luneburg. The officers are wearing the special regimental green tent hat with gold lace and braid.
