Drumhorse 1927

The drummer in this photo is named as Sergeant Turner. The bridle is slightly more ornate than that seen in the 1904 picture. The headpiece and brow-band are taken from a household cavalry bridle.

The Drum Banner that we see here dates from soon after the First World War. The SOUTH AFRICA 1900-02 battle honour had not been added until then so this was placed under the Crimean honours along with GIVENCHY 1914 and FRANCE & FLANDERS 1914-18. Six honours were placed either side of the central section. To the right can be seen LESWAREE, HINDOOSTAN, CENTRAL INDIA, AFGHANISTAN 1879-80, BAPAUME 1918 and ROSIERES. On the other side the honours barely visible are AMIENS, SOMME 1916 and BEAUREVOIR. The remaining honours, out of sight are ALBERT 1918, CAMBRAI 1917, and PURSUIT TO MONS. In the top corners are gold embroidered numerals and letters 8 KRIH.
