The Queen mother is seen here with Prince Philip the Deputy Colonel-in-Chief, and on the left, the Colonel of the Regiment. She had been Colonel-in-Chief since 1947, in which year she was appointed to the post for the 7th Hussars. When they amalgamated with the 3rd Hussars in 1958 she became the Colonel-in-Chief of the Queen's Own Hussars. She continued to hold the post for the combined QOH and QIRH in 1993 and this only ended with her death on 30th March 2002. She was succeeded by Prince Philip who continued to play an active part as Colonel-in-Chief of the Queen's Royal Hussars. |
