Cecil Albert Heydeman MC


The photo of Lieutenant Cecil Heydeman is a detail from a group picture of Queen's Bays officers taken in 1914 just before they went to France. On 24 Sep 1914 the award was announced: Lieut Heydeman, the Legion d'Honneur, Croix de Chevalier. The Quarterly Army List for 31 Dec 1919 lists Major C A Heydeman as on the staff, also that he served in operations in France and Belgium from 15 Aug 1914 to 5 Nov 1915. Then again from 3 Aug 1916 to 11 Nov 1918. He was mentioned in Despatches, gazetted 19 Oct 1914. Legion of Honour 5t Class, 1914 Star. MC.

In 1 July 1941 he was invested CB. The London Gazette lists him in 23 May 1946 as Major-General C A Heydeman CB MC (11880), late Cav. Approval of Mention in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the Mediterranean Theatre. A similar entry in the Gazette of 29 Nov 1945 approves his Mention for service in Italy.

He was born on 16 Aug 1889 and commissioned into the Queen's Bays on 27 Jan 1909. Lieutenant 15 Dec 1909. Captain 21 Jan 1916. Major 25 May 1919. Lt-Col commanding the Queen's Bays 24 Sep 1928. Colonel 24 Sep 1931. Relinquishing command of the Bays on 24 Sep 1932. Major-General 21 June 1938.
