Standard Party 1953

Very little detail of the standard is visible in this photo taken in 1953 when the Queen’s Bays were stationed at Fallingbostel in Germany. The SSM and escorting sergeants wear khaki battledress, and still have the white lanyard on the right shoulder that was adopted around the time of WW1. The pistol and holster mark them out as tank men but they are not brandishing a weapon as when on mounted duty.
