Charging, 1885

The regiment is cantering over the landscape as if on exercise but they are in full dress. the officer has a shabraque displaying the honours for Egypt and Tel-el-Kebir (see: Shabraques) which means that this watercolour was painted after 1883. The trumpeter on the grey horse wears a special musicians tunic with gold lace round the bottom of the skirt and down the front. This was replaced in about 1890 by a different pattern.
