Band in Broderick Caps 1907

This is one of the rare photos of the Scots Greys wearing the short-lived Broderick cap. It was named after the Secretary of State for War, Sir John Broderick and lasted from c1903 to c1907. The musicians at this time lost their distinctive undress cap since the whole regiment wore the same type of cap. The grenade badge had been replaced by the regimental Eagle cap badge, the yellow zig-zag was now white like the others, albeit a small representation on a patch at the front.

The bandmaster sits in the middle wearing the new style frockcoat, and a peaked forage cap which is indistinct in this photo. The two senior NCOs either side of the bandmaster have gold aiguillettes and gold cord edging to their dress tunics. The one with the dark moustache has four inverted gold chevrons, a silver Eagle badge and gold embroidered cross trumpets indicating sergeant-trumpeter. The other man is band sergeant.
