Band c1960

The band march and play in blue no.1 dress c1960. This photo is taken from a book published in 1962 but the exact date of the photo is not known. The uniform differs from the rest of the regiment in that the forage cap retains the yellow zig-zag cap band while the rank and file have white, and they have the flaming grenade badge instead of the regimental Eagle cap badge. The shoulder chains, close-fitting overalls, and spurs show them to be a cavalry regiment even if they no longer have horses. Interestingly, a careful examination of the photo reveals the pipers in the background. The Pipes and Drums of the Scots Greys had existed officially since c1950 and in this photo are wearing their dress uniforms.
