Bandmaster's Tunic

The bandmaster had a unique position in the regiment. His rank was that of a 1st Class warrant officer so could be confused with being an officer. This tunic is decorated on the cuff and back skirts with gold cord in the manner of a warrant officer. The twisted gold shoulder cords are not to be seen on any other tunic than the bandmaster. The band and trumpeters all had yellow cord aiguillettes but he had gold cord. The blue collar has gold lace on the top and front, and a silver embroidered grenade badge. The gilt buttons are of regimental pattern apart from the flat button at waist level, hidden by his waist-belt. On the right sleeve is a bandmaster's badge of a Victorian crown over a lyre. This tunic was auctioned at Wallis and Wallis together with yellow striped blue breeches that had black doeskin inside leg pads.
