George Frederick Alexander Mungo Bashford

George Frederick Alexander Mungo Bashford was born on 17 July 1849 in Calcutta. He was educated at Lancing College and played cricket for them. He went on to the Royal Military College and was commissioned as a cornet by purchase into the Scots Greys on 30 Mar 1866. He purchased the rank of lieutenant on 30 June 1869 and exchanged into the Ceylon Rifles on 5 April 1871. But this was short-lived as he retired in Dec 1871. He died in Wandsworth in 1921. The photo was taken in 1868 while he was a 19 year-old cornet in the Scots Greys. He wears the dress uniform of that regiment.
