C Squadron 1899

C Squadron of the Greys parade in South Africa in December 1899. Unfortunately they had to leave their grey horses behind in Scotland due to the spread of pink-eye. In this photo they are mounted on horses commandeered from another regiment. Their helmets are distinctive because of the khaki pugarees with red stripes. This squadron played a prominent part in the fighting and most of them were forced to surrender at Zilikat's Nek on 10 July 1900.
