Second (Regimental) Guidon 1766

This blue guidon with rich embroidery was the second guidon of the Scots Greys, used by the regiment from 1766 to 1783. The description of 1751 puts the regimental number 'II D' in the second and third corners but these flags have them in the first and fourth corners, even allowing for 'first' being nearest the flagpole. It is interesting that the II D on this guidon is in both cases surrounded by a small wreath of roses and thistles but not on the King's guidon. As mentioned before, these guidons were in the possession of Lieutenant-General David Home who commanded the Greys at the time they were taken out of use in 1783.
