Lieutenant J C Harrison


John Collinson Harrison was born on 9 Aug 1869 in Whitburn, Co Durham. He was the son, and 6th and youngest child of Thomas Elliot Harrison and Sophia Jane Collinson. He was commissioned on 5 June 1889 and promoted to lieutenant on 23 May 1891. He played polo on the Scots Greys team. He died of wounds in Pretoria on 3 Sep 1900. Lieutenant Harrison had been wounded on 26 Aug 1900 in an action north east of Belfast. The photo was taken in 1898. He has one star rank badge on the shoulder strap of his frockcoat which at that time denoted the rank of lieutenant.
