The Hon Robert Lindsay


The Honourable Robert Hamilton Lindsay was born on 30 Mar 1874. He was the son (4th child, 3rd son) of James the 26th Earl of Crawford and Emily Florence Bootle-Wilbraham. His brother, the 27th Earl, was a government minister. He joined the Scots Greys as a 2nd lieutenant on 10 Oct 1894 and was promoted to lieutenant on 25 Sep 1895. He was a captain on 20 Mar 1901 and went on to reach the rank of Major. He served with the Greys in South Africa from1899 to 1900 and was awarded the Queen's medal with 5 clasps. He was ADC to the Viceroy of India. On 23 April 1903 he married Mary Clarke, and they had 3 children. He died on 8 Dec 1911 aged 37. The photo shows him in the undress uniform of the Scots Greys in 1898 when he was a captain.
