Hon A J M St Clair


The Honourable Archibald James Murray St Clair was the Master of St Clair. Born on 16 Feb 1875. He was the son of Charles 6th/15th Lord Sinclair. He was commissioned on 9 Dec 1896 as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was a lieutenant in 1899 and a captain in 1901. He served with the Greys in the Boer War and in World War 1. From 1914 to 1938 he was Extra Equerry to Prince Arthur of Connought, the Colonel-in-Chief of the Scots Greys. From 1923 to 1957 he was a member of the Royal Company of Archers. He was JP for Kirkudbrightshire, and inherited the title 7th/16th Lord Sinclair on 25 April 1922. He married Violet Frances Kennedy on 31 Jan 1906 and they had 2 children, Patricia and Charles. The photo shows him in 1898 as a 2nd Lieutenant in Scots Greys dismounted stable dress.
