Maxim Gun Section c1895

The men in this photo operate a rifle-calibre Maxim mounted on a gun carriage. This was the normal infantry method of transporting and using the Maxim. The team are wearing a scarlet frock and green field service cap, which replaced the glengarry c1894. The officer, standing with his hands over his eyes, has a scarlet frock with breast pockets, and a sword hanging from his hidden waist-belt. Behind the gun team are two men holding the horses that pull the gun carriage. They are dressed in special breeches and puttees.
