Officer's Belt Plate pre-1800

This oval silver plate is the earliest known belt plate worn by officers of the 13th (First Somersetshire) Regiment of Foot, taken from a drawing in Major Parkyn's book on Shoulder-Belt Plates and Buttons (1956). The regiment was given the territorial title of Somerset in 1782 so this plate dates after that. Parkyn points out that the Royal Arms dates it prior to 1800. The 13th were a silver laced regiment until 1830 so would have worn silver belt plates up to that date.
