Officer's Belt Plate 1802-16

The Sphinx dates this belt plate after 1802, as the battle honour was the first to be awarded to the 13th Regiment on 6 July 1802. Parkyn says, 'The Sphinx is shown on a label inscribed with Egyptian characters according to Jennen's notes, worn 1801-1816.' If it was worn as early as 1801 then the regiment anticipated the award of the honour. The next battle honour to be awarded was MARTINIQUE on 19 Nov 1816, so this belt plate was worn before then.
