Lieutenant-General Granville Chetwynd-Stapylton


Granville George Chetwynd-Stapylton was born in London on 22 Mar 1823. He was the son of Major Henry Richard Chetwynd-Stapylton of the 10th Hussars, and Margaret Hammond. He went to Sandhurst and was commissioned as an ensign in the 13th Light Infantry in 1839. He joined the regiment on 21 Apr 1841 while they were in Kabul, after a journey of more than 20 months. He was with the regiment during the siege of Jellalabad.
