Herbert Cokayne Frith


Herbert Cokayne Frith was born on 12 July 1861. He joined the Somerset Light Infantry on 28 Jan 1882 and was attached to the Egyptian Army from 1885 to 1905 during which time he saw much active service in the Sudan. He was present at the action at Ginnis in Dec 1885, and again in 1889 at Toski. From 1897 to 1902 he was Station Staff Officer, 1st class in India. He was appointed commanding officer of the 1st Battalion on 27 Nov 1909, and took over command from Lieut-Col Stisted while the battalion was stationed in the south of England. He was promoted to Colonel on 2 Jun 1913 and relinquished command on 27 Nov 1913. He retired on 1 Nov 1918 having reached the rank of brigadier-general and was awarded the CB in 1916. He was married to Alice Isabel and lived at Fons George,Wilton, Taunton. He died in 1942.
