Shako Badge 1861-69

The badges worn on the 1861-69 pattern shako were quite basic, especially for the other ranks. This example is a brass OR regimental badge which followed the style of other infantry badges, having a garter star with the top point replaced by the Victorian crown, and a cut out numeral. Officers had a bugle with mural crown and JELLALABAD in the centre according to a booklet on The British Infantry Shako 1800-1897 published by the Military Historical Society in 2008. The officer's badge can be seen on the Shako 1855-61.
