Captain William Hewett


William Hewett was the last surviving British Waterloo officer, dying on 26 Oct 1891. He was born on 2 July 1795 in Southampton, the son of General Sir George Hewett 1st Bt. He married Sarah Duff in 1826 and they had 5 children. He was a captain in 1815 when he fought with the 14th Foot at Waterloo. He gained the rank of lieutenant-colonel in the Rifle Brigade.
