Lieutenant-Colonel William Trevor CB


William Cosmo Trevor was commissioned on 22 Jan 1842. He was a captain on 29 Nov 1850 and went to the Crimea with the 14th and fought at Sevastopol. He distinguished himself in the assault on the Redan and earned a brevet-majority. He was promoted to major on 27 Jan 1857 and was senior major in the 1st Battalion. He was appointed commanding officer of the 2nd Battalion in November 1863 and commanded them in the Third Maori War (1863 to 1866). He was sworn in as acting governor of Tasmania on 30th Dec 1868. He relinquished command of the 14th in 1873 by exchange to the 54th which he commanded until November 1877. He was given command of a brigade in Bengal and went on to achieve the rank of lieutenant-general.
