The Battle of Chillianwallah, 13th Jan 1849

The battle of Chillianwallah was a desperately close battle. The Sikhs stayed on the defensive hoping that their artillery and firepower would prevail. A reckless charge by the 24th into 20 Sikh field guns helped the unit to 50% casualties and the death of its Lieutenant Colonel and his son. The unit was learning the hard way that the bullet was replacing the bayonet charge.
