Lieutenant Henry Dyer

Henry Julian Dyer was born in Surrey and was adjutant of the 2nd Battalion 24th. He went with the main part of the 2nd Battalion to find the Zulu impi, under Chelmsford's command. Chelmsford was anxious to set up a new camp so sent Griffiths back to Isandhlwana to help the QM organise the move. Henry Dyer, aged 24, offered to accompany Griffith and so the two men rode back, to their deaths.
