Lieutenant George Hodson

George Frederick John Hodson from Bray county Wicklow was in Captain Reginald Younghusband's C Company at Isandhlwana, on the left of the line. They were the last group to die at the end of the battle. It was either Hodson or Younghusband who led a final desperate bayonet charge to kill as many of the enemy as they could before succumbing to the inevitable death by assegai. The photo shows Hodson in full dress uniform as a lieutenant at a time when he was ADC to Sir Henry Bartle Frere.
