Captain William Mostyn

Captain William Eccles Mostyn commanded F Company at Isandhlwana where he died on 22nd Jan 1879, aged 36. He was born in Glasgow the son of the Reverend George Mostyn and Charlotte Eccles. Mostyn's company joined the column at their camp on 21st Jan and the next day was ordered by Pulliene to take up position on the top of the spur leading down from the plateau. As the battle started the extended line of the 24th required some shifting of position to prevent gaps forming. As the Zulus rushed down the spur towards them the three companies A E and F had to retire towards the camp.
