Battle of Alexandria

This detail from P J de Loutherbourg's painting of the battle of Alexandria shows the battle being fought in the middle distance and the walls of the city in the background. At the front of the picture is a Black Watch sergeant on the right, a mounted staff officer on the left and an artilleryman in a blue jacket and red collar in the middle. Just behind the gunner's head can be seen charging Highlanders in kilt and red hackle. On the left French cavalry attack red hackled Highlanders.
