Highlanders on the Canal

This dramatic print of Highlanders at the battle of Toulouse shows them on the banks of a canal with a surprisingly intact bridge in the background. Soult's army would have had time to destroy the bridges before the arrival of the Allies. The Languedoc Canal circled the east side of Toulouse but the Highland brigade did not actually reach the canal during the battle even though Picton's men were making a feint attack on the Jumeau canal bridge. They were fighting at the redoubts to the east of the Plateau Calvinet.
