Regimental Colour 1839

This Regimental Colour dates after 1837 when Queen Victoria acceded to the throne. The VR cypher appears in the middle and at the three corners. The Colour has acquired nine more battle honours, gained from the Napoleonic Wars, to add to the EGYPT honour which is still placed at the base of the flag. Regiments were allowed to display battle honours also on the Sovereign's Colour at this time, up until 1844. But the 42nd continued to carry Colours that contravened this regulation. The regiment was presented with this, and the Queen's Colour, in 1839 while they were in Dublin.
