Colours 1751

This illustration is published in the Journal of the Society for Army Historical Research no. 31, January 1929. They are simplified versions based on descriptions and have to be viewed in conjunction with the actual examples of 1756 Colours. The first Colour is the King's Colour and the second Colour is the regimental Colour. They differ greatly from the 1745 Colours because in 1747 there were new regulations issued that abolished Field Officer's Colours and the personal devices of the Colonel. The size was to be 6'6" wide x 6'2" deep. Royal Regiments, like the 4th were to have their regimental number in the upper corner instead of in the middle like non-royal regiments.
